Reader Austin Camoens (cheers, mate!) has sent in this pic of what appears to be the new 2015 Mitsubishi Triton on the LDP. Camouflaged and de-badged it may be, but there’s no mistaking the distinctive sweep-up shoulder line and chunky rear bumper with black side ‘claws’. Are we one step closer to a local launch?
Unveiled in Thailand last November, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton boasts all-new looks, revised suspension, more insulation and damping, plus a new 2.4 litre MIVEC VGT turbodiesel engine. With a 15.5 compression ratio, the motor offers 182 PS and 430 Nm of torque, while promising 20% better economy.
Thai buyers can choose between a 128 PS/194 Nm 2.4 litre petrol (five-speed manual) or the new 2.4 litre diesel (six-speed manual/five-speed auto), in Double Cab Plus and Double Cab 4×4 forms.
Closer to home, the new truck appeared on oto.my some time ago, indicating a RM92k starting price and a 2.5 litre diesel engine. If this is to be believed, we could be missing out on the new engine, plumping instead for an improved version of the existing 178 PS/400 Nm 2.5 litre VGT unit – but do surprise us, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia!
With the new Nissan NP300 Navara having already been sighted in Malaysia and the 2015 Ford Ranger facelift having just world-debuted in Bangkok, exciting times are certainly ahead for pick-up truck lovers!
