Chinese families' aggression will not help search effort

KUALA LUMPUR:  Aggression by the families of the Chinese nationals onboard the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 will not help in efforts to find the missing aircraft.

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP) in an article by Alex Lo yesterday, many of the Chinese relatives and their online supporters behaved like "raging bulls", made wild accusations and physically confronted Malaysian officials.

This, it said, was in contrast to how the non-Chinese families of the missing passengers were grieving.

"Perhaps, they (Chinese families) find it natural to act out their anger and frustrations. That's understandable. Whether or not that helps anyone in the search for the plane is a different matter.

"Non-Chinese families of the missing passengers (may) grieve as much as the Chinese but you don't see them displaying the same level of aggression," the Hong-Kong based English daily said in the article entitled "Chinese Families' Aggression Won't Help to Find Missing Flight MH370".

The daily said, because officialdom in China was often unresponsive and unaccountable, it had become second nature for many Chinese to mistrust government accounts and flight officials.

"Confrontation and aggression become their default mode in fighting for what they think are within their rights to demand. Such behaviour has been on ample display in the relatives' dealings with the Malaysians.

"But whatever their faults, I am sure the officials from the Malaysian airline and the government are not murderers or conspirators, as some Chinese families have accused them of being."

The daily said no doubt that MAS and the government initially "fumbled" in their handling of arguably the greatest aviation crisis the country had faced.

"But to be fair, their performance and coordination improved over the following weeks and the officials from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak downwards have shown patience and humanity," it added.

Chinese patrol ship detects signal in Indian Ocean

Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01 - File Photo

KUALA LUMPUR: A Chinese patrol ship discovered a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5 kHz while looking for the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircraft in the southern Indian Ocean on Saturday, state news agency Xinhua reported.

According to a pinger manufacturer, that is same frequency used for black boxes – the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder.

“That is the standard beacon frequency,” Anish Patel, president of pinger manufacturer Dukane Seacom told CNN.

However the latest find has not been verified by the Joint Coordination Centre in Perth, who is coordinating the search operation for flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean.

Experts cautioned that the signal could come from a number of different objects apart from the aircraft.

This latest development comes 29 days after the Boeing 777-200 aircraft mysteriously disappeared while on route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8.

A few hours before the Xinhua report, Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein had announced Malaysia will appoint an independent Investigator-In-Charge, orICC, to lead an investigating team into the disappearance of flight MH370.

The team will include Australia, China, the United States, Britain and France.

Australian and British vessels are currently involved in a round-the-clock underwater search in the southern Indian Ocean, hoping to pick up a signal from the plane’s black box recorder, but the battery powering those emissions is nearing the end of its roughly 30-day life span.

Xinhua said in a brief dispatch, the Haixun 01 picked up the signal at about 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longitude.

“Suspected pulse signal picked up by Haixun 01 has not been identified yet,” the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center said on a verified microblog.

Australian Defence Minister David Johnston echoed the call, saying he had not received a report on the signal and warned that it may not be from the plane.

“This is not the first time we have had something that has turned out to be very disappointing,” he told ABC television.

He added he was going to wait for JACC chief Angus Houstan and his team to come forward with something that’s positive as the search operation for the missing flight MH370 was a very difficult task.

Authorities still have no idea how or why the plane vanished, and warn that unless the black box is found, the mystery may never be solved.

The Ocean Shield, which is carrying a US Navy "black box" detector, and HMS Echo, are searching a 240-kilometre track of ocean in hopes of detecting sonic pings from the recorder.

However, progress is painstaking as vessels must move slowly to improve readings, and officials have acknowledge there is no solid evidence the plane went down in that stretch of sea.

"The search using sub-surface equipment needs to be methodical and carefully executed in order to effectively detect the faint signal of the pinger," Commodore Peter Leavy said.

Kuasa besar terlibat misteri kehilangan MH370?

 Mohamad Abu Bakar
Mohamad Abu Bakar

AirAsia tarik balik keluaran Travel3sixty ekoran artikel 'kurang sensitif'

Rooney a doubt for Bayern game with injured toe

An injured toe could rule Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich, David Moyes has revealed.

Rooney picked up the knock during Tuesday night's 1-1 draw against Bayern in the first leg of the quarter-final tie at Old Trafford.

The problem has ruled the England striker out of United's Premier League game against Newcastle on Saturday, and he is now a doubt for Wednesday's return leg in Germany.

Moyes told MUTV: "He's got a badly bruised toe. He's got a terrible toe. Not only is it a problem for this game, it could be a problem for the Munich match.

"We need to monitor it. We'll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up."

Although Rooney has only scored two Champions League goals this season, he would be sorely missed if he was unavailable for a second leg in which United must score to progress.

Robin van Persie is already out because of a knee injury, while Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez have only been used sparingly this term.

The revelation that the 28-year-old is carrying the injury could, of course, just be a ploy to wind up Bayern, who have the ascendancy in the tie following Bastian Schweinsteiger's away goal.

Sir Alex Ferguson ruled Rooney out of the second leg of United's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern in 2010 after he suffered an ankle injury in the first leg.

The former Everton striker then made a near-miraculous recovery to start the second leg at Old Trafford, but he could not prevent United going out of the competition on away goals.

Apokalips X temui penonton selepas empat tahun

Apokalips X temui penonton selepas empat tahun

Apokalips X temui penonton selepas empat tahun

Namun

- Sinar Harian

Penangan rokok daun Pok De

Penangan rokok daun Pok De

Berkongsi cara membuat rokok daun, Pok De berkata, proses menjemur paling sukar kerana memerlukan cuaca panas, tetapi sekiranya musim tengkujuh, Pok De menjemur daun nipah di belakang peti sejuk.

Dual-SIM phone for the rich - the Gresso's Azimuth

The 1 percent have long had smartphones from Porsche and Vertu to quench their high-end thirst, but when it comes to dual-SIM handsets, the elite have had to settle for something a little more ordinary.

For those in need, Gresso created Azimuth, the first dual-SIM luxury handset.

Starting at $2,000, the phone is made of titanium, with both the keys and logo crafted out of 18K or white gold. Since appearances are all that matter, you're getting some pretty low-end specs under the hood, including 2GB of "internal memory," a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 and a tiny 1,100mAh battery.

To put things in perspective, Samsung's Galaxy S5 starts with 16GB of built-in storage, a 16-megapixel camera and a 2,800mAh battery. The difference being, anyone can buy an S5. Only 999 Azimuth's will be made, because no one who's anyone wants a phone 1,000 people can own.

Wanita hamil diacu parang

- Sinar Harian

Memali incident: Full statement by Tun Musa Hitam

KUALA LUMPUR: Following is the full media statement issued by former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Musa Hitam concerning his remarks on the Memali incident at the discourse organised by the Kelantan state government on March 27 themed 'Malaysian Politics: Now and Then'.

At 9.00 pm on March 27, 2014, I, together with (PAS vice-president) YB Husam Musa were panelists in the discourse organised by the Kelantan state government themed 'Malaysian Politics: Now and Then'.

Professor Agoes from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was the Moderator. The format of the discussion was similar to BBC London's television programme HARDTalk which prohibits panelists from using scripts or notes but to be prepared to answer whatever questions posed by the moderator.

Throughout the two-hour discourse, the Moderator was combative, aggressive and provocative. At the same time, I admit that he had displayed a fair, non-aligned and non-partisan attitude.

Towards the end of the discourse, I was asked questions about the Memali incident, which I inferrred revolved on three main issues, which are:

1. My confirmation that on the day of the Memali incident, (the then Prime Minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was in China and that I was the Acting Prime Minister.

2. I was fully responsible for the incident.

3. My feelings about the Memali incident.

"I gave my responses to the questions based on these four aspects:

1. I reprimanded the Moderator by saying that as a Professor, what he says must be based on in-depth research and accurate facts.

2. One the day of the Memali incident (Nov 19, 1985), Dr Mahathir was in Kuala Lumpur and I was not the Acting Prime Minister.

The Moderator showed a reaction of shock and in a clear voice, said 'My God', which also shocked the audience.

3. As the Home Minister then, I had outlined a general guide, issued a reminder and instructed the police on two things:

(i) The law must be complied with; and

(ii) Avoid violence and bloodshed.

I assumed responsibility and accountability over what had happened although I was not directly involved in the incident, but (I) left it to the discretion of the police to undertake the operation, in terms of determining the best time, method and approach to carry it out.

4. I admit with frankness, sincerity and with full realisation that the black mark in my political career is the Memali incident.

During the timeframe given by the moderator, I had explained the sequence of events.

On the day of the incident, the then acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and I had met with Dr Mahathir at his office and that the acting IGP had briefed him on what had happened following the police operation in Memali, which had resulted in the deaths of four policemen and 14 civilians.

At the meeting, I asked Dr Mahathir to postpone a China visit on three grounds:

1. The incident occurred in Kedah, the home state of the prime minister;

2. The incident involved Malays who professed Islam; and

3. By postponing the visit to China, Dr Mahathir would have portrayed that he had given priority to and showed concern for an incident that happened in the country.

Dr Mahathir insisted on going to China but I made known my suggestion to table (a report on) the Memali incident in Parliament.

Besides, I also asked for all media, including foreign media, to give me 24 hours to get a more accurate and comprehensive information about the incident.

I tabled (the report on) the Memali incident in the Dewan Rakyat on the following day (November 20, 1985) and convened a meeting with the media.

In summary:

1. It was not my intention to trigger new polemics in relation to Memali. It was revived following my response to a question posed by a moderator at the discourse.

2. The MAIN ISSUE in this matter is the fact that whether or not on the day of the incident I was the Acting Prime Minister because Tun Dr Mahathir was abroad. Based on my research from reference sources, it is clear that Tun Dr Mahathir was in the country, and that I was not the Acting Prime Minister on the day of the Memali incident.

3. During the court proceedings of my lawsuit against a writer a few years ago, in which I won, (Tun Dr Mahathir was still in power then), my lawyer asked two similar questions, whether Dr Mahathir was in the country on the day of the Memali incident and whether I was Acting Prime Minister. My answers were consistent that he was in the country and I was not Acting Prime Minister.

However, none of the media reported this.

All this while, I had been insulted, condemned and held in contempt over the incident by various quarters, particularly PAS. As far as I can recall, what more after I had stepped down from the ministerial post, no one from the government or even from Umno, of which I am a member, was prepared to come out with the truth.

I had offered to attend an exclusive interview with the media specially on the subject of the Memali incident, but no media was willing to interview me. I realise and understand that at that time no one was prepared to face the risk of talking about matters that could be assumed as having a bearing on the position and person of a prime minister in power.

All this while, I had been alone in my quest to get justice, but I kept praying and, finally, the discourse in Kelantan came up which I regard as God's answer to my prayers.

I realised that the latest development had drawn various positive and even negative comments and views, not least in the form of fresh accusations, allegations and slander against me.

I leave everything to God, the All-Knowing, as He knows the truth and I seek His guidance and justice.

Female golf stars up in arms over golf magazine’s front cover

Paulina Gretzky, the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, might seem an odd choice of cover model for a golf magazine.

The fact that she is the fiancée of world top 10 golfer Dustin Johnson and once appeared in a golf advert might give her a bit credibility, Bunker Mentality supposes.

But let's face it, that isn't what Golf Digest magazine's editors were thinking of when they dressed her in a sports bra and skin-tight tracksuit bottoms and asked her to pose provocatively for their photographer.

And so perhaps it's unsurprising that some of the best women golfers in the world have been queueing up to grumble about the saucy cover shoot for the American magazine.

World number three Stacy Lewis told the New York Times that it is "frustrating", and explained that "we'd like to see a little respect for the women's game."

Serial Major winner Inbee Park was philosophical about the cover, saying that it's, "just been the way it is for over 20, 30 years."

Veteran star Angela Stanford had a different take on the matter: she didn't have a problem with using a scantily-clad woman on the cover of the magazine, but rued the fact that it wasn't a pro golfer.

"You know the old saying, sex sells. And nobody can argue with that. It's just the way it is," she said in an interview with USA Today.

"But the LPGA has some attractive women and very fit women, so why not use them? I'm just baffled by it."

US golf legend Juli Inkster was cross chiefly because the magazine has splashed the likes ofKate Upton on the cover in recent months, but hasn't had a woman golfer on the cover in six years (Mexico's Lorena Ochoa was the one to earn that accolade).

"It’s frustrating because it’s Golf Digest; it’s not Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue. I think they should maybe recognize some of the great women golfers that we have," she told the New York Times.

"It’s like, What do you have to do to get a little respect? I’m guaranteeing you right now, it was not a woman editor who chose that cover."

The magazine's editor-in-chief Jerry Tarde defended the decision to put the 25-year-old model on the front of his magazine, saying, "Paulina ranks at the high end of the golf celebrity scene today, and she has a compelling story to tell," while adding that the magazine has often featured celebrities as well as touring professionals.

And there, at the bottom of his explanation, was a link to a slideshow with 17 more pictures from the cover shoot.

Because why settle for a few extra magazine sales when you can also deliver some failsafe internet click-bait as well?

Pemuas nafsu bapa saudara, hamil 8 bulan

Pengarah Jabatan Penguatkuasaan MPSJ, Mejar (B) Mohd Rasip Rasul berkata, pemeriksaan mendapati ketiga-tiga premis menjalankan perniagaan tanpa lesen sah dari pihak majlis.

Kesemua pengusaha premis berdepan denda maksimum RM1,000.

MH370: 'Ocean Shield' and 'HMS Echo' to start black box hunt

PERTH: The search for a vanished Malaysian airliner in the southern Indian Ocean went submarine (underwater) on Friday, to scour the treacherous waters to hunt for the black box 'pinger' of Malaysia Airlines MH370.

Nevertheless, the aerial search for the Boeing 777-200ER was still ongoing, said Joint Agencies Coordination Centre (JACC) chief coordinator, Australian Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston.

He said the Australian Navy ship, 'Ocean Shield' and the British Navy's 'HMS Echo' would converge along a 240km track in the southern Indian Ocean.

"Using the Towed Pinger Locator (TPL) from the United States Navy on Australian Defence Vessel 'Ocean Shield' and a similar capability on 'HMS Echo', the two ships will search a single 240km track, converging on each other," he said at a press conference here Friday.

This will be the first time a sub-surface search is being conducted in the search to detect the signal from Flight MH370's black box.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force 658 Commander, Commodore Peter Leavy, in a statement here Friday said the two ships and their towed-pinger equipment would be operating at significantly reduced speed to search depths of three thousand metres or more.

“There has not been any change in the search,” he said, adding that no hard evidence was found to date, thus resulting in the decision to search a sub-surface area based on the predicted data analysis.

“While the preference for search operations is to use physical evidence and then drift modelling to determine a smaller sub-surface search area, the search track is considered to be the best estimate possible for an area likely to contain the...aircraft.

“The equipment on Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) 'Ocean Shield' and 'HMS Echo' can only operate effectively at reduced speed, around three knots," he added.

Leavy said the search using sub-surface equipment needed to be methodical and carefully executed in order to effectively detect the faint signal of the pinger.

Yesterday, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was on a two-day working visit to Perth, Australia discussed the underwater search for Flight MH370, with his Australian counterpart, Tony Abbott.

During the visit, Najib personally thanked Abbot over Australia's spontaneous reaction to willingly answer Malaysia's request for the search.

He also had a first-hand look at the search being conducted from the western Australian city for the missing Malaysian plane, whose flight path was believed to have ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, left the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later, while over the South China Sea.

It was to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30am on the same day.

A multinational search was mounted for the aircraft, first in the South China Sea and then, after it was learned that the plane had veered off course, along two corridors - the northern corridor stretching from the border of
Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand, and the southern corridor, from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

Following an unprecedented type of analysis of satellite data, United Kingdom satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat and the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) concluded that Flight MH370 flew along the southern corridor and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia.

Najib then announced on March 24 - 17 days after the disappearance of the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, that (the flight path of) Flight MH370 "ended in the southern Indian Ocean".

'Noah' banned in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The film ‘Noah’ has been banned and will not be screened in Malaysia as it was deemed insensitive to the local community.

According the the Film Censorship Board chairman Datuk Abdul Halim, the decision to ban the movie was as a “precaution” because any films related to Prophet Noah (Nabi Nuh) is considered as insensitive to the Muslim community.

"The movie is banned because for us Muslims, we believe in Prophet Noah (Nabi Nuh) and according to Islamic teachings, it is prohibited to act out any characters of a prophet," he was quoted as saying.

"Any depiction of any prophet is prohibited in Islam," he was quoted in The Sun.

The board felt that the movie is not appropriate for screening in this country after considering Islamic facts and history.

Part of the Hollywood A-listers in the film include Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson. It premiered in the US on March 28.

With a budget of US$130 million (RM247 million), film critics said that this film is only an adaptation of the prophet’s life.
