Piala AFF Suzuki 2014

Afdlin Shauki sedia jadi jurulatih Harimau Malaya

Saya bukan jurulatih taktikal bola sepak tetapi jurulatih lakonan.

Perodua Myvi facelift rendered with new rear view

The leaks just keep on coming, it seems – more and more images of the upcoming facelifted Perodua Myvi have been making the rounds on the Internet, including some of the rear end for the first time! Once again, automotive rendering extraordinaire Theophilus Chin has mocked up what the updated version of Malaysia’s bestselling car would look like, based on the new photos.

With the aggressive styling front and back, it is obvious that these pictures are representative of SE and higher models. Most striking are the new clear tail lights, which make a comeback on the Myvi for the first time since the facelifted first-generation SE. The rear bumper also features a more refined, angular look, while the side skirts have been reshaped as well.

Interestingly, the models shown in the leaks appear to wear Advance badging, surely marking the end of the Extreme model with the OTT bodykit. It looks like Perodua’s current “sporty model” strategy is to have just one bodykit for both SE and Advance models, with the latter only differentiated by extra kit, as seen on the Alza and Axia.

It’s anyone’s guess as to how the rest of the range will shape up. The entry-level Myvi XT could be retained – if so, it should sport a considerably different look to the SE and Advance models, if the Axia range is any indication. Alternatively,

Perodua could drop the XT and make the 1.3 SE the new base model instead, with the former’s place taken up by the similarly-priced top-spec Axia Advance.

In September, a report from Indonesian motoring portal detikOto indicated that the Daihatsu Sirion – a rebadged Myvi sold over there – could see a refresh next year, so we’re expecting the facelifted Myvi to make an appearance earlier in 2015.

Incidentally, Perodua is currently running a “Myvi, the Love of the Nation” contest on its website. Coincidence?

JOHANNESBURG: South Africa on Saturday welcomed back home its first Miss World winner in 40 years, Rolene Strauss, with wild cheers and ululations.

Hundreds turned up at O.R. Tambo International Airport to greet Strauss after the 22-year-old medical student was crowned Miss World 2014 at a glitzy final in London last Sunday.

Dressed in the country's national colours, South Africans waved placards, flags and portraits of Strauss at a colourful ceremony staged at the airport in Johannesburg.

She accepted a bouquet of flowers from a young girl in a wheelchair.

Strauss is the first Miss World from South Africa since 1974 when the title was won by Anneline Kriel.

Among those at the airport was the country's first winner of the title in 1958, Penny Coelen-Rey, now a 74-year-old grandmother.

"We can be truly proud that she has brought the title back to South Africa," she said.

Leading the welcome party Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula evoked the memory of the country's first black president and icon, Nelson Mandela, who died a year ago.

"We are a proud nation today," said Mbalula. "Nelson Mandela is smiling on us, that his idea of a free democratic South Africa, a united nation, a rainbow nation is still alive today."

Strauss stepped into the airport's arrivals hall to deafening cheers and chants.

"I have no words to describe what I am feeling at this moment," she said, adding that taking part in the Miss World 2014 contest made her realise how "powerful" South Africa is.

"The words South Africa mean unity, freedom, forgiveness, a bright future," she said.

The famous Soweto Gospel Choir, which featured at the FIFA World Cup draw held in Cape Town in December 2009, led the performance to welcome Strauss.

One of fans carried a placard reading "Marry me Rolene".

KOTA BAHARU: About 100 people from 20 families in Kampung Tikat, Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan here were nearly swept away when the river banks on which their houses were located, collapsed early yesterday.

The houses were badly damaged after floods hit the area about 1am.

One of the victims, Abdul Halim Yusof, 40, who lived with his wife and five children aged between three and 15, said they were fast asleep when they heard a loud crash, only to find the house beginning to lean to one side.

"I led my family out of our house and waded through darkness to safety. It's a pity this is a new house built under the People Housing Project (PPRT) by the federal government, costing RM45,000," the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital staff told Bernama at the scene of the incident.

Another victim, Raja Pisah Raja Soh, 68, said he was alone in the house when the water swept in.

"I was awakened by my nephew, Raja Azlan's calls, who swam to my house to rescue me," he said.

Raja Pisah said he incurred about RM150,000 in losses as almost all his belongings were swept away.

Meanwhile in PASIR MAS, residents in Rantau Panjang described the floods as the worst in 10 years as the entire area was inundated by between one and three metres of water which overflowed the Sungai Golok.

Many of the business premises in Rantau Panjang town, especially the duty-free zone was flooded in the past three days.

Several dozen cars were also destroyed in the flood as the water rose very fast, catching the people unawares.

Speaking to Bernama, Mohd Noor Jaafar, 57, said the water began to rise at 10pm on Wednesday and in three hours, the water level exceeded 1.5 metres.

"We did not manage to save our belongings and all our electrical appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, television sets and furniture are under water.

Another victim, Mohd Zin Abdullah, 61, said the flood virtually paralysed the entire Rantau Panjang town and electricity supply was cut off for two days ago.

"Luckily for me and my family, I have a double-storey house and we need not have to evacuate," he said.

In TUMPAT, the Pengkalan Kubor marine police are busy patrolling Sungai Golok to look out for smugglers amidst the confusion of floods in the Malaysian-Thai border area.

Pengkalan Kubor marine police commanding officer ASP Mohd Nawi Yunus said the police were conducting round-the-clock patrols in the past three days, he told reporters here when assisting flood victims to evacuate.

Meanwhile, Mohd Nawi said marine police were working with Tumpat police to secure the homes of flood victims in the area.

Aston Villa v Manchester United preview: United on a high for visit of Villa

Team news, match facts, manager quotes, bookies' odds and fantasy pick for the Premier League game between Aston Villa and Manchester United at Villa Park.

TEAM NEWS

Aston Villa will be without three players through suspension: on-loan Tom Cleverley, who would not have been allowed to play against his parent club anyway, is banned alongside Alan Hutton and Kieran Richardson. Ashley Westwood (knee), Joe Cole (hamstring), Philippe Senderos (calf) and Nathan Baker (knee) are all injured, but captain Ron Vlaar and midfielder Fabian Delph are available after both returned from injury last weekend.

Angel Di Maria, who has not featured since United's 3-0 win over Hull City on Nov. 29 due to a hamstring injury, could return to the bench, and it is possible that Radamel Falcao might be named in the starting line-up. Midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out through illness.

MANAGER QUOTES

Paul Lambert: "Just because they've changed managers doesn't change my thinking of that football club. Chelsea and City have lost less games. But if United don't win it they will certainly have a big say in who does. If we win tomorrow it's good for us, that's the most important thing. We have to win for ourselves, it's got nothing to do with stopping United."

Louis van Gaal: "When you win six times in a row the confidence is rising, but I'm still looking for a game that is more close to the perfect game. For me, the performance is very important. When you perform well, you win more and that's what I want to show to the fans. The players want to show that. The guarantee of wins is much bigger when we perform better...They (Villa) haven't lost so much. They draw, they win, and when they lose it's always by a one-goal difference. It shall be very difficult."
