KUALA LUMPUR: Chili's restaurant has apologised to a customer who was asked to leave for bringing in outside food.
"We can confirm that the incident occurred on Sunday at Chili's One Utama. We have contacted the customer at around 1pm today and he has accepted our apology," said Chili's Malaysia director, Nicholas Ngai.
"We do have a strict ‘No outside food’ policy. The incident took place when the restaurant manager wanted explain to the customer about the policy. This may be a communication problem and we have apologised," Ngai added.
The customer had recorded the incident and uploaded on Facebook.
Ngai expressed his concern that the father of the man in the video has special dietary needs.
"In the future, we will prepare any food for his father provided that we have the ingredients in the kitchen,” said Ngai.
The footage of the video sees an unidentified man wearing a red shirt claiming that the restaurant manager refused to serve his family. The 77-second video has been shared, liked and commented since it was first uploaded today (Aug 24) on the 'Friends of BN' Facebook page.
“This woman (the restaurant manager) chased us out. She said we cannot eat outside food,” he said in the video.
Despite ordering four items from the menu, he said the only outside food was for his father with special dietary needs. - Astro Awani
