Suzuki Swift facelift officially previewed in Malaysia - starting from RM59,000

The Suzuki Swift facelift is now being officially previewed at the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre. We saw a lonely white unit parked inside Tesco Mutiara Damansara earlier this week, but this is a proper unveiling at Suzuki Malaysia’s FUN 365 roadshow.

Opened for booking earlier this month, the refreshed Swift comes in three variants – GA, GL and GLX. The entry-level GA takes over from the pre-facelift GL, and can be identified by its 15-inch steel wheels (with plastic covers, 175/65 tyres) and unpainted (black) door handles and wing mirror caps. The spare wheel has been swapped with a tyre repair kit.

It’s very basic inside too, with no radio, manual wing mirror adjustment, no driver’s seat height adjustment, no seatback pockets and unpainted door pulls. However, one gets (manual) air con, all-round power windows, fuel consumption gauge (instantaneous/average), ABS/EBD, Isofix and dual-airbags (the old GL had just one airbag). Only one colour available – Bayside Blue.

The new GL is where it starts for most buyers. It gets 16-inch alloys with 185/55 rubber, body colour door handles and wing mirrors plus a space saver spare tyre. Inside, there’s a four-speaker factory radio, USB port, electrically adjsutable wing mirrors and a more comprehensive trip computer that adds on range, outside temperature and gear position. Also in are chrome door pulls, driver’s seat height adjuster and one seatback pocket.

The GLX throws in quite a bit more. From the outside, LED DRLs and foglamps are obvious cues, along with unique double five-spoke rims that look sportier than the GL’s multi-spoke items. Same size, though. The wing mirror have turn signals and can be electrically folded. Safety wise, the GLX gets rear disc brakes and front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters.

Equipment wise, the GLX driver gets to enjoy a leather-wrapped steerring with audio buttons and telescopic adjustment, keyless entry and push start, auto air con, and a 2-DIN touch screen head unit with GPS, Bluetooth and two extra tweeters to make it six speakers in total. GL and GLX buyers can choose from five colours – Lagoon Turquoise (new), Bayside Blue, Supreme Red, Superior White and Olive Grey.

All three CKD locally-assembled Swift facelift variants share the same 1.4 litre VVT engine with 95 PS and 130 Nm. No change from before as the K14B is paired to a four-speed automatic gearbox.

Estimated prices start from around RM59,000 for the GA, rising to around RM65,000 for the GL. The GLX is should be priced near RM73,000.
