Manchester United keen to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger - reports

He has netted four times and produced eight assists.

Manchester United are keen to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the German magazine kicker.

Schweinsteiger, 30, is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2016, but kicker claims Bayern coach Pep Guardiola is willing to listen to offers for the German World Cup winner.

Kicker also claims that Louis van Gaal remains a huge admirer of Schweinsteiger after working with him during his spell as manager of the Bavarian club.

Schweinsteiger has played in only 27 games out of 51 since last summer's World Cup final due to injury.

Midfield has been a weak spot for Manchester United for some time and although they’ve addressed it with varying degrees of success with Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Daley Blind this season, there’s always room for another midfielder, especially one who’s won so much and proved to be a fantastic player. Perhaps Schweini could be used in a slightly more advanced position. There’s definitely room in the squad for him.
