TMI chief executive and The Edge publisher arrested for sedition

The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat and The Malaysian Insider chief executive Jahabar Sadiq have been arrested by the police today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat and The Malaysian Insider chief executive officer Jahabar Sadiq have been arrested by the police today, believed to be over an article published by the news portal last week.

This matter was confirmed by their lawyer, Syahredzan Johan in a series of tweets.

Syahredzan said they were arrested under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 4 of the Sedition Act.

The Malaysian Insider quoted Jahabar as saying that the portal will continue to report without fear or favour despite these arrests.

Yesterday, TMI managing editor Lionel Morais, features and analysis editor Zulkifli Sulong and Bahasa news editor Amin Iskandar were arrested.

Last Thursday, the portal quoted sources as stating that the hudud amendments were rejected by the Conference of Rulers.

However, on the same day, Kelantan state Exco, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan denied the news.

Following that, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police launched an investigation on the portal.
