Fuel prices unchanged for April, RON 97 with 6% GST

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ministry (KPDNKK) has announced that fuel prices will remain the same for April 2015 – RON 95 petrol will continue to be priced at RM1.95 a litre, RON 97 petrol at RM2.25 a litre and diesel at RM1.95 a litre.

However, a KPDNKK spokesperson has told Bernama that RON 97 petrol will be subject to a 6% GST from tomorrow, which effectively raises its price to RM2.385 a litre.

The rule, however, is that GST will be applied to the final figure, and the only time the question arises if the price is rounded up to RM2.39 or down to RM2.38 is if you were to buy a only a litre of fuel per time at the pump. We’ll need to confirm that one.

For those who do pump more than a litre at a go (which is most folk), the maths are simpler – for example, if you pump 10 litres, then it should work out to RM22.50 (at RM2.25 per litre) plus RM1.35 (the 6% GST) to make it RM23.85.

If you pump RM50 worth of RON 97, the final bill will add on 6% GST (or RM3) on that amount to make it RM53.
