Emotional Liverpool will blow title if they think destiny is on their side

I think we all have to take a step back, take a deep breath and calm down before making any predictions in the race for the Premier League. Liverpool are slight favourites, but that is all. Chelsea and Manchester City remain well in the hunt. Liverpool are on a great run, but they still have to win four games on the bounce which remains a big ask.

Chelsea also have it in their own hands. You saw nerves at the weekend in Liverpool's 3-2 win over Manchester City which you have to expect because they are young, and they are going to get nervous.

City did well to recover, and looked destined to pick up three points. It was only a poor mistake that an experienced player like Vincent Kompany should never be making that handed them the three points.

You can't say it is black and white, that Brendan Rodgers' side have it in the bag. The best team will win the Premier League title, but until you've actually done it you can't say Liverpool are certainties. They have yet prove themselves against City and Chelsea squads who have been over this ground before.

With four games to go, there are some huge moments remaining. Too many teams have been in positions when it has been in their hands, and lost the initiative.

Every time it has been in somebody's hands to get themselves a few points in front, they have blown it. City and Chelsea have suffered that problem. Now Liverpool are in a position where it theirs to lose.

You look at it, and Liverpool have yet to go to a Crystal Palace side playing some great stuff. Chelsea went there, and lost.

Everyone is getting all romantic and emotional, but that doesn't win you anything.

Emotions cost you scenarios, and if everybody starts getting emotional there is going to be a problem somewhere in those closing four matches.

I thought it was a little bit early to start crying and getting the bunting out after beating City because nothing has been won yet.

Steven Gerrard is one of my favourite players, and he is probably the one guy who is allowed to cry. He is the only one guy left at Liverpool, who is a one-club man, a figure born and bred in the city who loves his club.

He can have that. I'll accept that from it, but I won't accept it from any other players.

I can always accept it from Steven Gerrard, and what it means to him.

The moment of the occasion got to him, but you do worry about all the players and supporters getting too emotional. A lot of Liverpool supporters think that it is simply going to happen because it is 25 years from the horrific events at Hillsborough. But football doesn't work that way.

There is no date with destiny on the anniversary of that terrible tragedy.

There is no sentiment. If Liverpool get there, they are going to have to do it the hard way.

You win nothing with sentiment, you win nothing with emotions. Liverpool will win it with football, not losing themselves in a false sense of elation with the job not finished.
