Honda HR-V scores five-star ASEAN NCAP rating

More ASEAN NCAP crash test results have come in, and this time it’s the turn of the wildly-popular Honda HR-V – the B-segment SUV, which made its market debut earlier in February, receives a five-star rating from the regional safety programme.

In the 64 km/h frontal offset crash test, the Thai-market HR-V scored 15.21 points out of a possible 16 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), well within the five-star threshold. It also nabbed a four-star Child Occupant Protection (COP) rating – with 73% compliance – and passed the UN R95 side impact test necessary to achieve AOP ratings four stars and up.

Stability control, required for a five-star rating, is standard on all HR-Vs. However, certain models sold within the region are only fitted with a driver seat belt reminder, instead of on both front seats (also a prerequisite for five stars); those get a four-star AOP rating instead. As far as Malaysia is concerned, only the top-spec V model gets both driver and passenger seat belt reminders and is thus five-star rated.
