The show surged ahead of the pack with 24 nominations, while "American Horror Story: Freak Show" tallied 19 nominations. "House of Cards," "Mad Men" and "Transparent" each garnered 11 nominations.

More than half of the nominees in the four lead performer categories were first-time nominees or hailing from a new series. In the Outstanding Lead Performer for a Comedy Series category, this includes Kyle Chandler in "Bloodline," Viola Davis in "How to Get Away with Murder," Taraji P. Henson in "Empire," Tatiana Maslany in "Orphan Black," Bob Odenkirk in "Better Call Saul" and Liev Schreiber in "Ray Donovan."

A number of newbies also came in on the Outstanding Lead Performer for a Comedy Series list, with Anthony Anderson in "black-ish," Will Forte in "The Last Man on Earth," Amy Schumer in "Inside Amy Schumer," Jeffrey Tambor in "Transparent" and Lily Tomlin in "Grace And Frankie."

Looking behind the camera, there were 60 percent more female writers and directors nominated in the drama, comedy and longform categories as compared to last year.
