Police record statement from woman over nude games carnival

The nude games carnival was exposed after a video clip went viral on social media.

KEPALA BATAS: The police have recorded a statement from a woman from Ipoh, Perak, to help in the investigation into a so-called nude games carnival at the Teluk Kampi beach located within the Penang National Park.

Penang Police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the 24-year-old woman, who is employed by a private firm in Kuala Lumpur, was summoned to the South West District Police headquarters last Saturday and had been released on police bail.

"So far, the police have recorded statements from 18 witnesses, including a tourist guide, to help in the investigation," he told reporters today after the handing over of duties of the Penang Police logistics department head.

The nude games carnival was exposed after a video clip went viral on social media. The clip showed nine men and six women, all in the nude, painting their bodies, dancing and engaging in some games at the beach.

Abdul Rahim said the police were going all-out to trace those involved in the carnival and they believed that all the seven Malaysians who took part were still in the country.

He said Penang police had asked Bukit Aman to seek Interpol's help to trace eight foreign nationals, from Singapore, India, Myanmar and the Philippines, who were also involved in the carnival.

"The police were informed by one of the (Malaysian) participants that he wanted to surrender himself to assist the investigation, but so far he has not come forward," he said.

Abdul Rahim said the police had received 11 reports from people disgusted with the organisation of the nude games carnival.

He advised the 15 participants of the carnival to go to any police station or contact the investigating officer, ASP Mohd Sani Mat Ali, at 012-5424455 to help in the investigation.

Last Friday, the police circulated photographs of 12 people whom they believed could help assist in the investigation. - Bernama
