Shelvey wonder strike helps pile pressure on Villa

Premier League, Liberty Stadium – Swansea City 4 (Bony 10, 90+4 pen, Shelvey 26, Hernandez 73) Aston Villa 1 (Agbonlahor 22)

A Jonjo Shelvey wonder strike and a Wilfred Bony brace helped Swansea City to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium.

Bony had put Swansea ahead after ten minutes only for Gabriel Agbonlahor to level after a competitive opening spell.

But five minutes later, Swansea reclaimed the lead thanks to a stunning strike from Shelvey, who flicked up the ball before hammering an unstoppable 45-yard shot past Brad Guzan from almost back at the centre circle.

Pablo Hernandez made the game safe with a measured finish late on, while Bony added his second from the spot deep in injury time.

The result almost certainly secures another season of Premier League football for Swansea but piles the pressure on Villa, who are now only four points above the drop zone.
