GEORGE TOWN: A two-year-old girl was allegedly abused by caregivers at childcare centre in Gelugor here, Tuesday.
The victim's father, Noor Asrolizham Zakaria, 34, said he found bruises on his daughter's back, which he believed was a result of her being spanked, when he wanted to bathe the girl at about 7pm.
"The injured area was covered with thick powder. After wiping it with a damp cloth, a palm print was visible and the mark is still there today," he told reporters when met at Penang Hospital (HPP) here yesterday.
He said his daughter was sent to the childcare centre since she was four-months old and a medical examination confirmed the injury was caused by an adult.
Meanwhile, Penang Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief, ACP Ibrahim Abu Bakar said police had recorded statements of five individuals, including employees of the childcare centre, but no arrest was made.
"We will seek the cooperation of the Social Welfare Department to obtain further information, including the status of the childcare centre," he added.
