Good genes more often than not run in the family, but good taste and style, that’s learnt and perhaps if the fashion gods are kind – you’ll have flair and pizzazz as inherently as you breathe. But, if your mother is Hollywood royalty and huge in the entertainment business, she’ll be able to show you the ropes and teach you some of her style secrets. Maybe we might not have the money to purchase a new designer outfit everyday or to spend on our appearances with spa treatments or salon sessions, but we can still rock a look confidently alongside our dazzling mother.
In honour of Mother’s Day, we’ve rounded up some of the chicest moms and their equivalently cool daughters, from Madonna and her teenage daughter Lourdes Leon to the uber-beautiful Demi Moore and her rising-actress daughter, Rumer Willis. We salute all mothers for being there for their little (or not so litte) ones and taking them down the road of “on point”-ness in the fashion world. These moms prove that even with tight schedules, jet setting around the globe, working from a film set, or being in front of the camera never comes before tucking their kids to bed or providing mentorship when it comes to imparting style associated ‘words of wisdom’.
Clearly the apple does not fall far from the tree with these stunning daughters, but with high profile trendy moms like theirs, it’s hard to not be just as fabulous!
Demi Moore and Rumer Willis - both stylish, both have great genes (Rumer definitely got a good dose of Bruce Willis' genes) and they both have uniquely edgy sense of style. Rumer Willis dished that if she could raid any one celeb's wardrobe, she would choose the one she's been rummaging through her whole life, her own mum!
“My mom (Demi Moore) has got some great stuff," the Dancing With the Stars standout, 26, said in US magazine. "She's been collecting vintage clothes since she was my age—maybe even younger, like 16—so she has some really great things in there." They are the epitome of mother-daughter cool!
Madonna and Lourdes Leon: Madonna's 17-year-old daughter has a distinctive mishmash, 'rockstar' style of her own, but she teamed up with her mother to design the Material Girl clothing line.
Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson: Griffith’s 25-year-old daughter is both a model and an actress in her own right. She certainly has big shoes to fill as Melanie has earned a Golden Globe award and several Oscar nominations. Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota has undoubtedly been taking style advice from mum and they are both effortlessly stylish.
Zoe Kravitz and Lisa Bonet: The X-Men actress, singer and style risk-taker has two fashion-forward parents: rocker Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, who's best known for her role on The Cosby Show. It seems Zoë didn't just copy her mum's illustrious braids but also her out-there, slightly more daring fashion choices.
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy: Because of course the 'Queen of Pop''s daughter will be the most chic little baby out there. The adorable and uber-stylish 3-year-old is pampered to the max with ensembles we would even covet for ourselves.
