He was jailed and caned for molesting his niece at his mother's one-room rental flat.
After his release, his mother took him back into her home, where he molested his niece's 14-year-old friend a few months later.
The 49-year-old man was sentenced yesterday to five years' corrective training and given two strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to one count of outrage of modesty and stealing $500 from his mother.
Asked why she had taken him back after he molested her granddaughter, his 67-year-old mother said: "Where else can he go if I don't allow him back? He promised me that he would change and I trusted him."
And she has also forgiven him for his latest crime, with her main concern being whether she would still be alive when he gets out in five years.
