Solskjaer to be sacked as Cardiff boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is to be sacked as manager of Cardiff City after their poor start to the season, a report claims.

The Sun reveal that Solskjaer skipped training on Wednesday to meet with club officials and sort out a severance package.

Solskjaer could net as much as £3m in a pay-off despite only being appointed in January.

The paper says that: "In-demand Welshman Tony Pulis will be in the frame but (owner Vincent) Tan also has advisers pushing the idea of a foreign coach."

Solskjaer admitted his Cardiff side were short on confidence after seeing their poor run of form continue with a 1-0 defeat at home to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Spanish striker Kike struck the winner after just 87 seconds at Cardiff City Stadium, volleying home from close range after losing the attentions of Juan Cala to meet Albert Adomah's cross.

Boro keeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos did not have a meaningful save to make as the Bluebirds slumped to a third defeat in four games.

The results means Solskjaer has taken just 20 points from a possible 75 in league action since succeeding Malky Mackay in January.

And the Norwegian admitted the run was having an effect on his players as they slumped to 17th in the Championship table.

"We just did not get going. Our first attack looked promising and then we got countered and conceded.

"We didn't need to do that in the first few minutes, we wanted to go and turn things around from losing to Norwich on Saturday and that knocked our confidence.

"We want to prove we are better than we showed against Norwich and it never happened.

"The first half was very poor, we got more second balls in the second half and we pushed them back, but we did not create any moments of quality to open them up which was very disappointing.

"But confidence only comes from performances and results and without it you are unable to make those quick decisions in the heat of battle and it cost us."

Cardiff were booed off at half-time and full-time, but Solskjaer made the effort to applaud the home support, taking to the pitch as the teams walked off to clap towards all sides of the ground.
