Baby suspected to be abused dies in hospital

IPOH: An 18-month-old baby, suspected to be abused by his babysitter, died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun hospital here.

Doctors had to pull the plug on Muhammad Khalish Hadif Kamarul Zaman Shah at 10am yesterday when his condition did not show improvement.

His mother is a staff nurse at the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The boy had been admitted for the past one week.

Ipoh acting OCPD Supt Ahmad Termizi Abdul Haq said the cause of death was brain haemorrhage.

The babysitter took the boy to a clinic last Tuesday after he started to have breathing difficulties and the doctor referred the boy to the hospital.

Supt Ahmad Termizi said no arrest had been made, adding that the babysitter had explained that the boy had knocked his head on the table.

Muhammad Khalish Hadif’s aunt said the boy had been under the care of a babysitter for a month at Pengkalan Tiara near here.

According to her, she saw the boy just before the start of Ramadan.

“He was learning to walk and starting to say a few words,” she said, adding that she came from Kota Baru after being told that doctors would remove the life support system.

Muhammad Khalish Hadif’s remains were claimed by his parents from the mortuary and buried at his father’s hometown in Gopeng near here.
