No action on Alor Setar bullies as victim’s guardian wants to ‘leave incident behind’

No action on Alor Setar bullies as victim’s guardian wants to ‘leave incident behind’
No legal action will be taken against a group of students from Alor Setar who bullied a Year Six schoolmate.

Instead, they will be let off with a police warning in line with the wishes of the victim’s guardian who also wants to leave the incident behind.

The Rakyat Post yesterday reported of a video which went viral. In the clip which ran for almost two minutes, the schoolboy, clad in a co-curriculum T-shirt, was attacked by several pupils in an otherwise empty classroom.

The boy had his head slapped around, his sides and back kicked, his face wiped with a dirty broom and at one point, had a red plastic rubbish bin placed over his head before a couple of the bullies proceeded to repeatedly kick it.

In a signed declaration by the victim’s guardian, a copy of which was obtained by TRP, the decision was made after the guardian spoke to the school’s headmaster, a police inspector and Alor Setar MIC Youth Chief W. Thiruchandru.

Thiruchandru said he was alerted to the matter by MIC strategic director Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari and was at the school with the victim’s parents when contacted by TRP.

“Physically, he is okay but the boy is a quiet type and he finds it difficult to mix with others.

“The tragedy happened during recess after the UPSR exam. They (the children) started off by playing but started to quarrel and then came the incident of bullying.”

However, he said the parents of the victim did not wish to make a big issue of the matter as they wanted their son, who had finished his schooling there, to move on to secondary school unmarked by the incident.

The parents, according to Thiruchandru, wanted him to go with a good image and no problems, while the kids who bullied him were going to other schools.

He also said that because of this, the parents wanted for no action to be taken beyond a verbal warning but he would accompany them to a nearby police station later to lodge a report.
