Anwar will contest for PKR president post

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed he will run for the post of president at the party’s elections in May.

His nomination form was submitted by former PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali on Saturday morning.

So far, no other party members have submitted forms to contest the post.

The Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament will run for the party’s top post despite facing the possibility of imprisonment following his sodomy conviction by the court of appeal in February.

The PKR presidency is currently held by Anwar’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail since 1999.
