Three people named as 'possible' successor

KUCHING: Amid speculation that Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will step down as Sarawak Chief Minister, three people have been named as possible successors to the post.

They are PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, vice-president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and information chief Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

According the The Star Taib had announced the names during the party’s Supreme Council meeting yesterday, adding the information was obtained from party insiders.

However the matter was not confirmed by the party’s Permanent Chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar saying only “It’s possible”.

He added he would support anyone that Taib chooses as his successor.

Johari too was tight lipped over the matter asking reporters to divert their questions to Asfia.

Taib is expected to make an important announcement on Monday. He had also received the full mandate from the PBB committee caucus to name his successor.
