Thai wife splashes acid on sleeping husband

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 18, 2015:The Chinese New Year celebrations tomorrow is going to be a bleak one for a plumber after he lost his sight when he was splashed with acid in the eyes allegedly by his wife from Thailand.

The Thai woman is now on the police wanted list after she allegedly splashed acid on her sleeping husband, causing him to go blind and suffer serious bodily injuries.

In the 6.30am incident at the Macallum Streets flats yesterday, the 29-year-old woman was said to have fled using a Nissan Grand Livina with the registration number PJU 1000, believed to belong to the victim.

Acting Northeast District police chief Supt Abdul Rahman Ahmad said the 47-year-old victim, who works as a plumber, sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack.

“The victim is now being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU ) at the Penang Hospital and is in a critical state of coma.

“According to doctors the victim might be permanently blind as the acid was splashed into his eyes, body and feet,” he said after visiting the victim at the Penang Hospital here today.

Abdul Rahman said the couple had been married for five years and had no children

“We’re still investigating the motive of the attack, which is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” he added.

According to the victim’s neighbour, who requested anonymity, the victim had even told him that he would be going back for a reunion dinner with his family in Gelugor

“It really shocked me to learn what had happened after seeing the ambulance here early in the morning.”
