Man dies in parang attack

Police carrying the victim's body out to be sent to Penang Hospital yesterday.

GEORGE TOWN: A foreigner, believed to be a victim of robbery was found hacked to death in front of a temple in Relau here Monday.

The victim, in his 30's, had sustained multiple slash wounds on the face, neck and hands. The left ear was severed.

A teacher who was exercising at a recreational area in Taman Metropolitan stumbled on the body about 10am.

No identification document was found on the victim whose remains were sent to the Penang Hospital.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said initial investigations revealed the unarmed victim had fought off the assailants who were armed with machetes.

"Based on his injuries, we believe he had used his hands to ward off their parang attacks.

"The victim died in less than two hours after the gang attack which was between 2am and 5am," he told reporters at the scene of the crime.
