Police tracks down 1,200 people link with secret society in Penang

The Penang police are tracking down 1,200 people, believed to be members of 14 secret societies which are active in the state.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said police had information on their activities and expected to arrest them soon.

"I'm warning these 1,200 secret society members that the police are looking for them and will find them not matter where they are," he told a media conference here today.

The state police, he said, had also identified five secret societies which did not have a logo, but were active in Penang.

They are known as Pneh, Ji Lam Che, New  Sell 20, Ang Kim Leng and Sio Sam Ong, he added.

On the Ops Cantas which was launched on Aug 17, Abdul Rahim said 233 people had been detained until yesterday with 47 of them for various criminal offences.

Police also seized 164 weapons, including four pistols, he added.
