CIMB Group Chairman refutes the claims that he is courting the idea of forming a new political party.
KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak refutes claims made by certain quarters that he was in plans of forming a new political party.
“I refer to recent news reports that I am setting up a new political party. This is not true,” said the CIMB front man as reported by The Star Online, today.
Nazir who has been increasingly vocal with the current political upheavals of the nation is said to be in talks with fellow friends to do their bit for a better Malaysia.
"In this context, I have had conversations with like-minded friends, including Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, about the need to better enable moderate Malaysians to voice their views, concerns and suggestions.
"We have discussed setting up an NGO, but it remains just an idea at this moment," Nazir said in the statement.
Meanwhile Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) CEO, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah in a statement confirming the discussions held, stated that those involved were in thoughts of forming an NGO.
"There have been conversations by him and friends, including me, on the current socio-political and economic situation.
"We are thinking of forming an NGO as a platform for moderate voices," stated Saifuddin.
Earlier, Nazir was said to be courting the idea of forming a new political party, as reported by news portal Asia Sentinel.
The report stated that Nazir has been quietly meeting with business leaders in his UK headquarters and in Kuala Lumpur to form a well-funded new, nonpartisan political entity.
The new party aimed to reach out to all races and end the divisive racial politics.
