Eight Orang Asli arrested over murder of friend


They were detained in connection with the murder of Rahmat a/l Endang, 33, from Rompin.

PEKAN: Police Thursday arrested eight Orang Asli men who are believed to be involved with the death of their friend in Kampung Permatang Siput, Temai, near here.

Pekan police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said the suspects in their 20s were detained near the crime scene at 5 am.

They were detained in connection with the murder of Rahmat a/l Endang, 33, from Rompin.

Yahaya said about 7 pm Wednesday, a villager from Kampung Permatang Siput, was on the way home from a fishing activity when he found the body of the victim lying on ground with wounds on his face and body, about 50 metres from a plantation road.

"The resident immediately lodged a police report. The victim's body was sent to the Pekan Hospital.

"Initial investigations revealed the victim had bruises and swelling on his chest and face and scratch marks on the front part of his body," he told reporters here Thursday.

He said police also believed the victim might have sustained injuries on his ribs.

"It is believed the incident occurred while the victim and all of the suspects were drunk before a fight broke out between them, and they were challenging among themselves during that time.

"When the victim fell unconscious, all of the suspects fled the scene," he said.

Yahya said the victim was married and has two children.
