Awie pleads not guilty to domestic violence charge

Malaysian rock singer, Awie, today pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence charge at the Ampang Magistrates Court.

AMPANG: Malaysian rock singer, Awie, today pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence charge at the Ampang Magistrates Court.

Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, 46, was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt on his wife, Rozana Misbun, 36.

He allegedly hurt his wife on June 2 at Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang, around 1.30pm.

Awie who was represented by defence attorney, Hazman Harun arrived in court around 11 am.


He was also accompanied by other Wings members, Joe and Eddie.

Awie looked calm when the Attorney General, Suhaimi Ibrahim read out the charge.

Awie also commented that he did not think this matter would be brought to court.

“I don’t want to comment anything afraid that it will affect this case, but i did not expect it will come to this stage” he told reporters after being charged.

Upon conviction, he can be jailed for a maximum of seven years and fined.

Magistrate Ayuni Izzaty Sulaiman fixed bail at RM9,000 with two sureties and fixed Aug 11 as mention date.
