The 28-year-old was announced this Sunday as having extended his deal with Los Blancos by three more years, committing through until June 2018.
Initial reports have suggested that the Portuguese star’s deal was set with an improved salary of 17 million euros a season, net, to make him the best paid player in La Liga and in the world currently.
However, AS are today running the line that his earnings are actually going to be closer to 21m euros (£17.5m) every year after tax.
Whilst also representing an outlay of around 40m euros a year for Madrid to pay, this new amount would place Ronaldo as the best paid player ever, surpassing the believed €20m net salary that Samuel Eto’o was picking up from Anzhi until this summer.
