UMW Toyota Motor has officially announced that it will begin taking orders for the all-new Toyota Hilux. Although an official launch date has not been provided, the company did reveal the pick-up truck’s pricing, which is lower than the earlier estimated prices.
The Hilux’s only single cab offering is the 2.4 4×4 manual, priced at RM89,900. Moving up the range, we come to the double cab variants, which starts at the 2.4 4×2 manual, priced at RM91,900, followed by the 2.4 Standard 4×4 manual at RM99,900.
Next, the 2.4G 4×4 manual will cost RM109,900 and its self-shifting equivalent, the 2.4G 4×4 automatic wears a price tag of RM121,900. The top-of-the-range 2.8G 4×4 automatic is priced at RM133,900. All the prices mentioned here are on-the-road with insurance.
With the prices out of the way, let’s talk specifications. The new Hilux will be powered by Toyota’s new GD turbodiesel line-up, which come in 2.4 and 2.8 litre configurations, corresponding to the variants’ name.
On the exterior, the non-G Hilux variants come with 16- and 17-inch steel wheels, whereas the 2.4G (manual and auto) get 17-inch alloys. The large 18-inch alloy options are reserved for the 2.8G, including the LED projector headlamps (rest of the pack get halogen reflectors).
Inside, a new double-DIN 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be found for the G Hilux variants, along with a keyless entry and start and a drive mode switch (Normal, Eco and Power). However, only the 2.4G auto and 2.8G (interior pictured below) get an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and leather upholstery.
As for the non-G variants, a double-DIN head unit is fitted instead, featuring CD playback and a host of inputs. Elsewhere, the steering wheel is made of urethane as opposed to leather, although it is still tilt and telescopic adjustable.
To take on rough terrain, a 4WD transfer dial and rear differential lock is fitted on every variant except the 2.4 4×2 manual for obvious reasons. Moving on, Active Traction Control (A-TRC) is standard on the 2.4G AT and 2.8G only.
Safety-wise, the Hilux is a step up from before. On all variants, including the base single cab offering, three airbags along with ABS and EBD are now standard. The 2.8G does one better by adding an additional four airbags. In a similar fashion to A-TRC, VSC and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) will only be available on the 2.4G and 2.8G.
