5th Gen Mitsubishi Triton launched

After what seem like an eternity, Mitsubishi has finally launched the all-new Triton, which replaces the hardworking trooper that had stood its ground for so many years. The fifth generation Triton wears the newly-designed sheet metal that originated from the Concept GR. While it may not be a carbon copy of the concept, the Triton does its best to stay faithful to the overall shape. Not only does the new design cut a sharper image but it also lends of a low Cd value of 0.42.

For all of its newness, it is one particular element that takes the spotlight. It’s called the J-line and it runs between the cabin and the rear deck. This seemingly simple line has allowed Mitsubishi to shorten the wheel-base of the Triton, making more agile than its predecessor. The line is also credited for increasing interior space and as a result, there’s 20mm more legroom and 10mm more shoulder room compared to the predecessor. Carrying capacity has also increased.

The Triton boasts a number of first-in-class features. It comes with a push-start button, keyless entry, Xenon HID headlamps and DRLs, and tilt and telescopic steering and paddle shifters.

Two diesel engines are available for the new Triton. The top of range engine here is the 2.5-litre VGT that produces 176bhp at 4000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000rpm, which is 50Nm more than the previous version. The engine is mated to either a five-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission that sends power to all four-wheels, which can be selected via the Easy Select 4WD dial. You have the choice of three variants in this configuration – Triton VGT Adventure Automatic, Triton VGT Automatic and Triton VGT Manual.

The other engine comes without the VGT, which produces 108bhp and 200Nm of torque. This engine only comes with a five-speed manual. Two choices are available in this configuration – Triton Manual and Triton Quest 4x2, the latter is a low-rider, rear-wheel drive version of the 4x4 truck.

The Triton is priced, on-the-road without insurance and with GST, from RM67,603.64 for the Quest 4x2 and it goes right up to RM108,273.68 for the VGT Adventure. All Tritons comes with 2 Years Free Maintenance and a factory warranty of three years.
