MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Jiah Khan, best known for her debut role opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the 2007 film Nishabd, has committed suicide. The police in Mumbai said the actor, 25, reportedly hanged herself at her home late Monday night.
Amitabh Bachchan was among the first of her colleagues from the film industry to react, posting on Twitter: "T 1128 -WHAT ...!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable !!!"
The late actor's body was found by her mother according to the police. No suicide note was found, however investigations are on by the police to track her last visitors.
Nafisa Khan (Jiah was her stage name) played a teenager in love with her best friend's father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, in Nishabd.
Jiah Khan's other notable films include an appearance opposite Aamir Khan and Asin in Ghajini (2008), a Hindi remake of a Tamil film of the same name.
Her last film was Sajid Khan's comedy flick Housefull in 2010.
