Manchester United are set to make a summer move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani, reports the Daily Star. United will not take up their option to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis this summer and have turned their attentions to Uruguayan star Cavani instead.
Cavani is known to want to leave the French capital and United are one of the few clubs who can meet the astronomical £62 million asking fee. A fee that would see United break the British record transfer fee of £59.7m they paid for Angel Di Maria over the summer. The source of the story comes from the usually reliable French publication Le 10 Sport.
Paper Round’s view: Cavani is a striker of some renown and would, it is fair to say, walk into – and improve – most teams in the world.
However, United have more pressing areas of concern to address in their team ahead of attack. Securing a deal for a central defender and a deep lying midfielder should be prioritised over another striker.
Of course, the future of Radamel Falcao is central to all of this – if United do take their option to sign him then this move would surely be off. However, Cavani is said to have suitors in Italy - namely Juventus.
