Four in five people worldwide now own a smartphone, recently published figures show.
According to the Global Web Index Device third quarter survey, 80% of online adults now possess a smartphone, while 50% own a tablet. And a huge 91% own a PC or laptop.
The figures are fairly equal between men and women, although when it comes to age, the 25-34 demographic is the most likely to be connected via smartphone, while those aged between 55 and 64 are the least likely to own the technology.
The mobile Internet sector is increasing, with web users spending an average of 1.85 hours per day online via their phones, the report states. However, this number varies depending on demographic, rising to 2.84 hours for 16- to 24-year-olds.
Wearable devices, however, have yet to enjoy the same success, with only 9% of participants confessing to owning a smart watch and even fewer (7%) a smart wristband. Those aged 25-34 take the lead in this category.
Global Web Index interviews more than 170,000 Internet users in 32 international markets annually. Approximately 40,000 participants are used in each quarterly study.
