Champions League quarter final, second leg, Allianz Arena - Bayern Munich 6 (Thiago 14, Boateng 22, Lewandowski 27, 40, Mueller 36, Alonso 88) Porto 1 (Martinez 73)
Bayern Munich made a mockery of any Champions League elimination fears with a 6-1 win over Porto at the Allianz Arena, taking them into the Champions League semi-finals 7-4 on aggregate.
Bayern’s first five goals came in a dazzling 28 minute first-half spell that killed off Porto’s hopes and put the German champions in total control of the tie.
Thiago Alcantara opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a close-range header after Juan Bernat’s outstanding cross before Jerome Boateng nodded in to put the home side ahead on away goals.
Robert Lewandowski made it three just five minutes later after heading in a sensational volleyed assist from Mueller, before the German forward got on the scoresheet with a deflected strike from 25 yards.
Lewandowski added the fifth with a low drilled shot across goalkeeper Fabiano to end any doubts just before half-time, leaving the sides to play out an almost meaningless second period.
Porto striker Jackson Martinez did pull one back with 17 minutes to go, nodding into an empty net, but a late red card for Mercano and Xabi Alonso’s goal from the resulting free-kick wrapped up a hugely dominant win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
