KUALA LUMPUR: Jakarta Gabenor, Joko Widodo won the Indonesia presidential election with 53 per cent of the votes, beating his rival Prabowo Subianto who garnered less than 47 per cent, the Jakarta Globe reported.
The newspaper also published a photo of Joko, fondly known as Jokowi, on its front page today with the title Indonesia has decided.
The Jakarta Globe said this was based on the General Elections Commission (KPU) tallies from 34 provincial offices, where individual tallies from each province was made public in various media reports.
“Jakarta Globe has compiled the data to produce its own recap of the national tally — with the KPU only scheduled to finish and announce its final national tally by Tuesday night,” the newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the recap of the result is consistent with the quick counts by eight pollsters announced after the voting on July 9.
At that time, Jokowi was leading with 51 to 53 per cent compared to Prabowo who garnered 47 to 49 per cent. The new president is expected to take oath this October. - Astro Awani
