Almost 1000 supporters gathered in solidarity for Anwar

The number of supporters increased to almost 1000 people shouting Reformasi while lighting up their candle. 

SUNGAI BULOH: Almost 1000 people gathered for the candle light vigil in front of the Sungai Buluh prison as a form of support towards Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is currently serving his five year sentence.

The vigil which was supposed to begin at 8pm only started at 9pm with the arrival of 50 people.

One hour later, the number of supporters increased with many shouting ‘Reformasi’ while lighting up their candle.

Also gathered were several Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leader including Tian Chua, Rafizi Ramli, Abdullah Sani, William Yeong and Nik Nazmi, who gave their speech.

In his speech Tian Chua said every second Anwar is in prison, are moments when the country is not experiencing democracy.

Rafizi meanwhile urged all those who attended the vigil to gather in front of the Sungai Buluh prison everyday as a form of support towards Anwar.

During the vigil, police were seen guarding the area by placing barbed wire fences in front of the prison.

Prison police were ready to face any eventualities while a helicopter was seen circling the area.

The group later dispersed at 11.30pm.
