KUALA LUMPUR: An unknown gunman or gunmen fired several shots at a man and his two-year-old daughter in Semenyih Thursday night, killing the girl and critically injuring her father, police said Friday.
Kajang Police chief ACP Willey Richard said the girl was shot in the head and her father, in his 30s, in the neck at about 10 pm as they were in front of a bank in Jalan Besar in the town.
Passers-by rushed them to the Kajang Hospital where the girl was confirmed dead, he said in a statement.
An eye-witness who wished to be identified only as Ujang, 29, said he heard gunshots and saw the man and the girl fall to the ground by the roadside.
He said the incident happened so fast that he was unable to catch any glimpse of the gunman.
"I was saddened to see the girl with a gunshot wound on the right side of her head and immediately called the police although I was shaking all over," he told Bernama when contacted.
