KUALA LUMPUR: After over a month, the Home Ministry finally lifted its suspension on weekly paper The Heat, allowing it to continue operation without any changes to its current publishing permit.
The newsweekly sister publication, TheAntDaily newsportal reported that this was conveyed to its publisher Satria Kiara Sdn Bhd in a letter dated Jan 24,2014.
The letter was signed by Publications and Quranic Text Division head Hashimah Nik Jaafar, on behalf of the ministry’s secretary-general.
Meanwhile, The Heat editor-in-chief David Lee when contacted, confirmed that the newsweekly is back in business.
“It’s confirmed that we have got our license back. We received it today. And our license is intact,” he told Astro AWANI.
“Of course the staff who have been waiting for this, they are happy. We are now going back to publication soon. The date is still being fixed. Probably after Chinese New Year,” he added.
It was believed that the ministry had suspended the newsweekly’s publication on Dec 19 following a report titled "All eyes on big-spending PM Najib" published in its Nov 23 to 29 issue.
