Smuggler sent to the gallows for trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here on Wednesday ordered a smuggler to be hanged to death for trafficking in 310.1gm of heroin two years ago.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah handed down the sentence on Roslan Hanapi, 36, after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution case at the end of the defence case.

However, the court acquitted and discharged Abdul Razak Senik, 41, and Mohd Hafizul Aswan Azman, 31, who were jointly charged with Roslan.

They were charged with trafficking in the heroin at a store in Kampung Bakat, Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, at 2.15am on Jan 30, 2012.

Roslan was also sentenced to life imprisonment and six whipping for possession of a pistol.

He was charged with possession of the pistol, a Revolver .32 3" Model 31-1 Smith & Wesson, at the same place, date and time.

In mitigation, Roslan's lawyer, Muhammad Hasif Hasan, said his client was remorse.

Deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim prosecuted.
