KUALA LUMPUR: Only 40% of city dwellers inform the police when they leave their homes for a long break. This percentage clearly shows the lack of awareness in matters concerning crime.
Despite reminders given by police, the carefree attitude practiced by many city dwellers indirectly increases the risk of crimes from taking place.
Astro AWANI on Thursday took a closer look on the situation in Kuala Lumpur following the exodus of many due to the Chinese New Year celebration.
According to Brickfields police department patrol car officer, Support Constable Faizal Zulkifli, the police Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) units supported by the motorcycle patrol unit, patrols many areas as decided by the Royal Malaysian Police.
With higher concentration being given to high risk areas, the modus operandy of the monitoring process will however differ compared to the routine process.
For operation during the festival periods, housing areas are also patrolled to increase the people's confidence in the police.
As for homes which are left empty, a notice will be left by the patrolling units to inform that their house has been monitored to ensure no break-ins. - Astro Awani
