Police believe kidnapped Taiwanese woman still alive

KOTA KINABALU:  Police believe the Taiwanese woman who was kidnapped on Pulau Pom Pom off Semporna, is still alive and are intensifying efforts to trace her.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said to date, police had not received any ransom demand from any quarters.

"We have taken statements from the workers at the resort where she was kidnapped and police are still waiting for any ransom demand other than seeking the best ways to find the location where the kidnappers are holed up.

"We roughly know their whereabouts but we must have ample proof and accurate information. What is important is that the victim is safe," he said when met by reporters after attending a special dialogue session with tourism industry players here Monday.

The dialogue was organised by Sabah's Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry.

Hamza said he also hoped resort operators on islands, specifically in the east coast of Sabah, would cooperate with security agencies because they should not compromise on security.

On Nov 15, the Taiwanese woman, 58, was kidnapped while her 57-year-old husband, also a Taiwanese, was shot dead while they were holidaying on the island.
