KLUANG: A baby, barely eight months old, died on the way to the hospital after being involved in an accident with a lorry and five other cars at KM 55.8 Jalan Mersing – Batu Pahat at 11.50am.

The deceased, identified as Nur Muhris Anas Anuar, suffered serious head injuries which led to his death.

A lorry, travelling from Kluang to Mersing, lost control and collided with a car before it crashed into a parked car the victim was in with his father. The lorry also crashed into three more vehicles parked nearby.

The impact left Nur Muhris trapped in the wreckage of his father’s car with serious injuries to the head.

“Passersby rushed in to rescue the trapped baby and Nur Muhris was rushed to Kluang Hospital but he died on the way to the hospital”, said Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commisioner Mohamad Laham, adding that the victim’s 36-year-old father escaped with minor injuries on his hands and legs.

Mohamad Laham said that initial investigations showed that the 33-year-old lorry driver, Mohd Rizal Ahmad's failure to control the vehicle caused the accident.

“The suspect has been arrested. He will be remanded starting Sunday for further investigations and will undergo a drug test."

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) APJ 1987.
