Dr Mahathir also said Najib is a weaker leader compared to his predecessor, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on UMNO grassroots to give him an opportunity to explain why he was critical of the current leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said to have a wise decision or punishment, it is only fair that one listens to both sides of the story.
“After listening to both sides, then judge my 'attacks', whether I am destroying the party or trying to save it," he wrote in his latest blog entry.
In his usual sarcastic manner, Dr Mahathir thanked UMNO leaders who have advised him not to attack Najib but added that he has somewhat ‘a little’ experience in politics, especially the Malay culture.
“We tend to be loyal to the leader. We don’t question whatever done by the leader. He is the leader, we are followers, So, we just follow,” he wrote.
“Especially when we are given closed door briefing, as though we are allowed to share a secret with our leader,” he said.
Dr Mahathir also said Najib is a weaker leader compared to his predecessor, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“Those who refuse to see are the ones who failed to realise that UMNO under Najib, failed to revive UMNO after Abdullah,” he said.
