IPOH: Fifty-seven houses in Gugusan Manjoi here were badly damaged after being hit by a heavy storm this evening.
The areas involved were Kampung Tengku Hussein Baru and Kampung Sungai Tapah Seberang.
Manjoi assemblyman Mohamed Ziad Mohamed Zainal Abidin said in the 2.45 pm incident, many houses had their roofs ripped off.
"The worst hit were the roofs. Some houses also had their fences blown off," he told reporters after visiting the houses involved in Kampung Tengku Hussein Baru.
He said the victims were being sheltered at the village's Rukun Tetangga hall and the total number people involved had not been verified.
"Assistance will be extended to the victims to lighten their burden,' he said.
Meanwhile, Habsah Yassin, 86, of Kampung Tengku Hussein Baru said the roof of her house were blown off in the glimpse of an eye while a car belonging to one of her grandchildren and several house items were also damaged.
Another victim, Mohd Khalid Mohd Tahir, 60, from the same village said when the storm came, they hid themselves in a safe place and this was the third time such a strong storm occurred after living in the village for 35 years.
