IPOH: Heavy continuous rain resulted in flash flood in Ipoh resulting in approximately 300 flood victims in Kampung Sri Klebang Tambahan 2 being evacuated to the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Klebang, here.
Ipoh Fire and Rescue Department chief of operations, P. Samasuvam said it received information on flooding in the housing area at 9.41pm, Monday.
"Heavy rain caused the river to overflow and the village was inundated by three feet of water," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, torrential rain which continued for about an hour resulted in flash floods in Kampung Terang, Pulau Betong, Bayan Lepas, Batu Maung and Teluk Kumbar.
A resident of Kampung Terang, Aziz Ibrahim, 61, said in the 2.30pm incident, water rose to his calf level and entered his house.
He said this was the first time flood had occurred in the 30 years he had been living in the village.
The flash flood is believed to be due to the incomplete drainage system of a housing project located about 20 metres from his house.
In Persiaran Mayang Pasir 5, Bayan Baru, the flood water rose up to the knee level and only receded an hour later.
Meanwhile, Southwest district Civil Defence Department operations head, Zunaidin Abdullah said the flood water rose up to the knee level in Kampung Binjai Batu Maung.
"As at 8 pm, it was still drizzling but the water has receded," he said when contacted today.
