Think first before you 'click'

With everyone being connected and easily found in the social media, one needs to be more ethical, responsible and wise when using the various platforms.

PETALING JAYA: Think before you 'click' anything on the Internet or face the wrath of the law, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said.

Its chairman, Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, said any 'tweet', 'share' and comments, although made unintentionally, that could hurt the feelings or have negative effect on others might cause the authorities to take legal action.

"Now, everyone is connected and can be easily found in the social media. So, teach oneself to be more ethical, responsible and wiser when using the social media," he said.

He said this at a media conference after launching phase two of the 'Click Wisely, Meet Up!' programme here Saturday.

The campaign, which targets those between the age of 13 and 18, provides various applications and games to educate and create awareness among Internet users on security, protection and responsibility in cyber space.

Mohamed Sharil said it was also crucial for parents to monitor their children when the latter were using the Internet.

Based on statistics, 2,137 complaints on abuse of the social media were received by MCMC last year and this year, as of July, 1,457 reports were lodged, he added. - Bernama
