KUALA LUMPUR: Official of Wisma Putra today confirmed the incident in Cairo which involves a former Al-Azhar University student injured when shrapnel of a stray bullet hit him on the face.
In commenting on this incident, the official said that the injury is minimal and that he is now receiving continuous help from the embassy in Egypt.
When asked on the aid provided to the students in Egypt, the official said that the embassy is holding continuous meetings with the students there, providing them with advise on ways to stay safe while studying in Egypt.
“Malaysian students are mainly advised not to take part in any demonstrations held or to be anywhere near such areas and to remain vigilant at all times” said the official to Astro AWANI.
Yesterday, M. Naser Zahed, 27, who was on his way to send his wife for an exam at the Islamic Sciences Al-Azhar University, decided to return home upon discovering a demonstration which got out of control.
While walking home he felt something hit his face and realised that he was bleeding. He was later brought to the hospital for further treatment.
Naser was accompanied by a staff from the Malaysian Embassy in Egypt.
