Mother, son die in Ipoh terrace house fire

IPOH:  A 75-year-old mother and her son aged 41, perished when the two-storey terrace house in which they had been living for more than 10 years at Jalan Devadason, Taman Ipoh here was razed early Thursday.

Perak Zone 1 Fire and Rescue Station chief Ruhisha Haris said Lau Yoke Yee's remains were found near the bathroom of the master bedroom while her son, Stephen Loo Pei Yee's body was found near the staircase on the upper floor.

"Two fire trucks from Ipoh and Simpang Pulai with 24 personnel and three officers arrived at the scene at 8.18 am but 90 per cent of the house was already destroyed.

"The team managed to douse the fire by 8.35 am," he told reporters at the scene.

Meanwhile, Wong Foo Sang, 63, said he heard some explosions before realising that his neighbours' house was on fire.

According to him, Lau had difficulty walking and Loo was believed to suffer from depression.

"She has another son who is working as a pilot in Singapore," he said.
