Elderly man killed, 11 injured in accident involving 3 vehicles

MALACCA: An elderly man was killed while 11 people including three children were injured in an accident involving three vehicles on the AMJ (Air Keroh-Melaka-Jasin) Highway near Bukit Lintang here early Monday.

Musa Tahir, 62, died at the scene after fracturing his spine and ribs in the 1am incident.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman said Musa, his daughter, aged 28, and two other family members were on their way from Melaka Historical City to Muar in a Perodua Alza MPV when the accident happened.

"Two cars, a Toyota Altis and a Proton Saga coming from the opposite direction apparently grazed into each other, causing the Toyota Altis to skid and hit the Perodua Alza," he told reporters here.

He said the Proton Saga driven by a 58-year-old man with six passengers on board skidded into a drain on the left.

He said a 28-year-old man and a woman, 58, who were passengers in the Perodua Alaza were seriously injured and were rushed tp the Melaka Hospital.

Salehhudin said Musa's daughter only sustained light injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Altis, a 20-year-old man ,and all in the Proton Saga also suffered only light injuries.

Meanwhile, a relative of Musa who only wanted to be known as Amy, in her 20s, said when the accident happened she was in another car following behind the victim's.

She said they were returning from a holiday in Cameron Highlands and had stopped by Taman Perkota here before heading to their homes in Muar.

Amy said the Proton Persona car they were in managed to avoid getting caught in the pile up.
