KUALA LUMPUR: International accounting and consulting firm Crowe Horwath is holding two seminars this week on the implications of Goods and Services Tax (GST) for Malaysian businesses following the recent budget announcement of GST implementation on April 1, 2015.
Crowe Horwarth is flying in two experts from Australia, Jonathan Doy and Chan Wai Choong, to complete a panel of four speakers for the sessions to be held in Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Subang Jaya, on Nov 21 (Thursday) and in Ramada Plaza Hotel, Melaka, on Nov 22 (Friday), Bernama reported.
Doy has over 26 years in tax consulting and is one of Australia’s leading GST experts while Chan has over 18 years of experience in indirect tax and is currently the GST Executive Director of Crowe Horwath Australia.
Crowe Horwath Malaysia Executive Director for Tax, Fennie Lim said the seminars are held in response to a deluge of queries from local businesses at a post-Budget seminar held by the accounting firm.
“Our goal is to help businesses get ready before the GST deadline; they should not have a wait-and-see mindset because this is for real. GST is not only for certain sectors, it is a broad-based consumption tax which applies to goods and services at every level of the supply chain.
“Also, GST is not just a tax issue, it is a business issue that affects every aspect of the business, from finance and administration to procurement, sales and marketing, information technology and human capital,” Lim said.
The Crowe Horwath experts will share their insights on how to master the concepts of GST in Malaysia and discuss opportunities, processes, challenges as well as critical issues that can impact on a business.
The speakers and their presentations are as follows:
• Mr Poon Yew Hoe, Managing Partner, Crowe Horwath Malaysia on “Accounting Implications and Transitional Issues”;
• Ms Fennie Lim, Tax Executive Director, Crowe Horwath Malaysia on “GST Concepts and Fundamentals”;
• Mr Jonathan Doy, GST Partner, Crowe Horwath Australia on “Critical Issues and Challenges”;
• Mr Chan Wai Choong, GST Executive Director, Crowe Horwath Australia on “Processes and Implementation”.
